
Orange-flavoured Chocolate Cake
One of the most popular desserts on our Kamahi Cottage dinner menu.
1 ¾ cups Flour
2 cups Sugar
¾ cup Cocoa
2 tsp Baking soda
1 tsp Baking powder
1 tsp Salt
2 Eggs
finely grated zest of 1 Orange
1 tsp Vanilla essence
1 cup freshly brewed strong black Coffee
½ cup Soya oil
1 cup Milk or Buttermilk
Icing
1 cup Icing sugar
2 tsp Cocoa
finely grated rind of 1 Orange
12 tbsp Butter (soft)
hot water to mix a spreadable consistency

Preheat oven to 180°C.

Mix everything in a food processor until very smooth.

Pour into a baking paper lined 23–25cm tin (or several smaller tins).

Bake for 1 to 1.5 hours until cooked (test that a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean).

Let cool, then ice when cold.
